Mending A Puncture

Required Components

Hole in Inner Tube

Puncture repair Kit which contains patches, glue and sandpaper

Once you have the necessary bits you are ready to start

  1. Inflate the tube slightly, and try to locate the hole by listening for air coming of the hole, with large holes you will be able to hear the air coming out easily, smaller hole will require that you hold the tube near your ear. If this fails try placing the tube in water (may be difficult on  a trail). It may be wise at this point to mark the hole with chalk if it is small so that you do lose its position.
  2. Remove and remaining air and roughen the surrounding area with the sandpaper.
  3. Spread some of the glue on the roughened area and leave for about 1 minute until it becomes tacky to touch.
  4. Place to Patch on the glued area with the paper/plastic backing facing upwards and leave for a few minutes. If possible apply pressure to the patch.
  5. To remove the backing crease the patch in the middle, try to life the patch from the middle in order to avoid pulling the patch off again.
  6. Pump up the tyre slightly and listen to the patch to see if it leaking air, if it is remove the patch and start again

Place the wheel back together again and pump it up, should be all fixed.
