Ringland Hills

How to get there

Heading west away from Norwich(Norfolk) on the A47, go past the Royal Norfolk Show ground slip road and turn right at the Roundabout at Easton and Head north, take the left at the cross roads and follow the road over the bridge, keep to the right after the bridge and go up the hill and pull in at the lay-by at the top of the hill when the trees start on both sides. The Area to the right ( as you come up the hill) is more suited to playing about, but may make a nice little warm up area before you start on the long trek.

What's there

Most of this route is a mixture of off road and road riding through the finest of Norfolk country side, there is even a descent sized hill or two thrown in.

The Route

From the lay-by/car park head west along the path that runs alongside the fields, the path starts as single track and then opens up into a tractor trail. This track will head downhill (this bit was great in the winter freeze as the whole thing just became a sheet of ice) before crossing a small B road, head straight over this road and then carry along the tractor trail running along the edge of farmland, you may be tempted to take your bike into the forest on the left, don't as it is private property.

Heading along the tractor trail you will come to a farm house the tractor trail will swing around (on an extremely sandy piece of road) and then come to a road, with the house on your right you should be able to see the entrance to another piece of bridle way (it is not marked a bridle way but looks like land rovers have been down it) on the other side of the road opposite the house, go over the road and follow this until it comes to another road. This road is Ringland Land, turn right here and go along the road heading towards Ringland. You will again past some forest on your left, this is Primrose Grove and is again private property.

Just (and I mean just) before you enter the village of Ringland Hills you will see a Footpath sign posted of to the left, this footpath goes up what looks like a open farm track, so I don't suppose the farmer will mind if you cycle up it ......... oh sorry back to the plot, this is Royal Hill. Climb Royal Hill and go straight down the other side. When you get to the bottom of Royal Hill take the fork to the right of the House. The next part if marked Public Footpath, so you will need to walk this piece. Follow the track across the fields (can be water logged in winter) over the the bridges that divide the fields and head toward the farm buildings. Go through the farm buildings (closing all the gates ) and head towards the road. Go straight over the A1067 and head up the dirt track on the other side, which will lead you to and through Attlebridge Hills.

Half up the Climb the track will fork, it doesn't matter which one you take as again they both head towards that same place but I like the one on the left (it also is more fun to come back down as it is very fast and very sandy making for a bob sleigh ride down), at the top of the climb you will find yourself staring down into a very large Gravel pit which you ain 't allowed in. Bear left around the Gravel pits and the North-west corner head away from the Gravel Pits using the tractor trail
