How to get thereLeave Norwich on the A140 heading North/ North-West Aylsham is about 5/6 miles from Norwich City Centre. Just south of Aylsham you will find a roundabout, going straight over this roundabout will place you onto the B1354 this will take you to Aylsham. As you pass through Aylsham you will see a Ford Garage on your left and the old Railway station (Starting Point) opposite on your right. HistoryMarriott's way is named after William Marriott who was Manager and chief engineer of the Midland and Great Northern Railway system for 41 at the turn of the 19th/20th century. He lived at Melton constable. The RouteLeave the Aylsham station by heading west and crossing the B1354, heading up the side of the Ford Garage and pass through the gate pronouncing the start of Marriott's way. The next 12 Miles follow the abandoned railway, the track conditions can be very bumpy as horse's churn up the surface but latter the route becomes segregated and things do improve.Leaving Aylsham you will be heading east. you will cross the B1149 before Cawston and the B1145 at Cawston. At Reepham, when you reach the B1145, head straight across and you will pass straight under the old railway bridge and past the Reepham railway station. Keep heading east and the track will take you to Themelthorpe were the route will turn south / south east, again crossing the B1145. The route will turn east and then south. At the Blackwater bridge the route will turn more north/ Northeast and take you past Fiddlers Hill and the Grove onto the fields of Cawston. Further on you will Find a sign post marking Reepham and Lenwade, take neither , but instead follow the steps and head of down the unclassified road heading north east towards The Grove and Cawston. From Cawston head straight back to Aylsham and where you started from. |
